What if the exhaustion you can't shake isn't about working too hard — it's about carrying patterns that were never yours to begin with?
In this episode of Break Free from the Burnout, Dr. Anastasia Chopelas sits down with healer Luminara, who spent two decades tracing her own chronic illness back to trauma inherited before she could even speak. Luminara shares how her mother's grief and fear reached her from infancy, why surrender — not more effort — was the real turning point in her healing, and how she now works with sensitive, intuitive children so they don't spend a lifetime managing what was handed to them. They also talk about generational healing, re-parenting yourself with the same compassion you'd give a child, and why rest and nervous system regulation matter as much as any supplement or protocol.
If you're a healer or coach quietly running on empty, this conversation offers a grounded look at where that exhaustion may actually be coming from.

What if the exhaustion you can't shake isn't about working too hard, it's about carrying patterns that were never yours to begin with? Today's guest has spent over two decades helping people trace that weight back to its source and put it down for good. Stay tuned. You'll want to hear this conversation. Welcome to Break Free from the Burnout. I'm your host, Dr. Anastasia Chopelas, physicist turned energy healer, and I'm here to help you make the quantum shifts to release the hidden blocks to your success. Your next breakthrough starts now. Welcome to the show, Luminara. I'm so happy you're here to talk about this important topic. Thanks for having me. It's great to be here. Yes. So you healed yourself from conditions doctors said were permanent. I know that's a familiar story. The women listening to this have often tried everything the conventional world offered and and something is still missing. What happened to you, and what did it teach you about what's actually possible? 20 years it took me to heal myself. I probably spent 14 years on the emotional healing, and I felt really clear and healed, but the physical body just wasn't healing still. That was quite frustrating, and I was told by some holistic therapists and healers that I was taking too much responsibility for it myself, and that it was a… There was a great scheme of things that was nothing to do with me personally, and I had to just go with it. I didn't really and but I never gave up the idea that I believed that I could heal. I never gave that up. and I tried probably thousands of treatments, supplements. everybody has the one that they say, "I'm not healing because you've not tried this," don't they? And you pay for them all. I tried everything, and none of them helped me heal, and it was because I was still fighting to be well. And the minute I totally understo- understood the word surrender and allow, even though I'd been teaching it for over maybe 15 years, I wasn't actually fully surrendering myself. And when I fully surrendered and fully gave up and said, "If I… Maybe I won't heal, but I will still shine anyway. I'll just accept this," and I began to get better. Wow. And so it was just the absolute… And I've been teaching that we all need to find a state of ease because I knew what had made me poorly. Yeah, but the, the absolute full letting go and surrendering is where we heal. Yes. I get that concept entirely. I… Whenever I gave up on something, it happened. Yeah. So I had been married 10 years to my children's father, and it, I was almost 18, about 18 years without anybody and I said, "Okay, I don't need anybody." And that's when my now husband showed up- Oh, okay … within a week. And- Okay… and I remember, in the US People put bumper stickers for messages on their cars, and I saw one that says, "I feel so much better now that I've given up hope." So at some point you started seeing that the blocks people carry don't always start with them, they come through the family line. How did you begin recognizing that what you were healing in yourself had roots that went further back than your own life? It was really quite obvious for us because my mother experienced severe trauma abuse from her father, and so did my auntie, and we knew that had happened. and while she was pregnant with we- me, my father became poorly, and he died when I was 12 days old on Valentine's Day. And my mother was made homeless s- as soon as he died. Because he was an Orthodox Jew, my mother was Catholic, they married against everybody's, you know, better word, you shouldn't get married. And they were living with my parents. So when my father died, they basically put her on the streets with a two-year-old and a brand-new baby. And so the trauma that my mother was experiencing, and I was obviously a very sensitive child and, a super empath I think you call us. And so from day one, I was absorbing this dreadful grief, but not only that, she was breastfeeding me. And something I've learned since I've been very poorly is that when we're going through a traumatic, situation and we're breastfeeding, the heavy metals in the body will literally, go into the breast milk and all, yeah, as well as the chemicals that are released through the fear. and so she's basically feeding me the fear physically as well. Yes. And extra heavy metals. So I became, I got measles as a baby, and I had chickenpox twice, which is apparently impossible. Yeah. Yeah, and then I got reoccurring shingles, which is apparently is impossible, and I have probably m- not many illnesses I haven't had. Oh, my goodness. Yeah. But they… But one of my teachers- Usually if you, if you have chickenpox- Sorry late in life, which I did, I was 34, apparently it's preventative for shingles. Wow. So I'm, that's a surprise that you had it that much. Amazing. Yeah. So one of my brilliant teachers had taught me a long time ago, he said, when a child goes through even maybe one really traumatic shock without, strong support around them, that 'cause lot, everybody experiences trauma, we're mostly affected if there isn't that support that needs to be there. So that if we feel safe within the trauma, a child can usually get over it. A child that doesn't feel safe within the trauma is affected for the rest of their lives in the main. and he said that shock, he said the, immune system just breaks down in that moment, and then things get in in that moment, like energetically, physically, physiologically, energetically, mentally, emotionally, things get in. And then it's a, a lifetime battle to manage that. Yeah. And so how do you feel now? So I still, have to really manage my own regulation and my nervous system. So after 31 years, I, got viral meningitis after abusive relationships and trauma and, There was just so much trauma literally nonstop for 35 years really. So even when I started to heal myself, I did get out of it within that time and have so much therapy, but the abuser would come back into my life and cause more trauma. So it just was ongoing really for 35 years. Oh my goodness. Yeah. And so what happened, even through continuous healing for 15 years, my nervous system would wake me up in the night rattling, like shaking. My whole body was shaking. I have tests. I looked on the internet and apparently there was a lot of people experiencing it all over the world. What was it? It's not my heart. It wasn't this, it wasn't that, and I realized it was the nervous system literally panicking even when I was asleep. You know, I was fast asleep. Well- And I, and it's… I thought there was an earthquake a lot of the time. An earthquake was waking me up, the whole of the body. So I still have to manage it continuously. Wow. Or I get poorly again, so. Yeah. we process a lot of things in our sleep. The subconscious mind is still very active. That's where a lot of dreams come from, and a lot of times the dreams are a little bizarre, but they usually are just broken pieces from what you've experienced, during your lifetime, mostly the most recent things that I remember breaking out into a big sweat when I was ready to knock on my ex-husband's door saying, "I'm coming back," you know, and I'm going," Oh, why?" I just didn't want that. So I had to wake up and figure out what that was about. But yeah, our nervous system, it takes a long time to heal, to- Yeah… really, especially- if they've I work with a lot of high achieving women, and one of the most exhausting realizations is that they spent decades managing patterns that were handed to them and not created by them. what does healing of inherited emotional wounds actually look like? how I do it, which is what I was talking about, is I was working on something, current with myself, and for no reason I found myself back, with my parents, my parent, and working through with her, which is something I used to do with her when she was alive. I used to try and help her heal from her trauma. And, I do the same sort of work with the children and with people who've been treated badly from parents or carrying this generational trauma. We go into the, the lives of the parents or grandparents, even if we don't know them, and we look at them as a child. Yes. At the point when they were absorbing the, the trauma and the experiences that were gonna negatively affect them, which helped them grow into an adult that then wasn't a great parent. And, and by going in there with forgiveness and openness and compassion, and looking back that this might stem back, eons in this family. Yes. It can. yeah. And using energy work to retrieve the fragments of these beautiful souls that were just born beautiful, whole souls like we all were, before they were damaged. And fixing it on an energetic level is my job. so working with children, you've worked in schools bringing mindfulness and energy healing to children labeled as difficult, like ADHD, autism, trauma, with trauma history. So what you were describing when you get pulled back, I call that the bungee cord effect of PTSD, right? So you're sitting there one moment, everything's okay, and then all of a sudden you're back in that emotional traumatic state of that damage happening. So I'm sure children are experiencing it but not able to handle it. So what do you think these children are showing us? They are teaching us to be better parents, obviously to be more mindful parents. but they're also showing us because they are, so open to healing right now at very young ages, which we, none of us were, we all got into adulthood and had to get our therapy and stuff . The fact that this is opening up for us and allowing us to help children heal at a much younger age is changing the world, isn't it, for the better? I think so. It's transforming the world. We're healing the trauma between us. Yes. I love watching your, your podcast. Between us, we are healing the trauma of the world, and what better way to change the world, you know? I think so, and I think that when, because the, the work that I do is that I go back into past lives, and I go back into the energetic patterns that they inherited from family and, and help them basically release that out. And usually, when you heal that person, you heal all the previous generations. Yeah. But you also heal the future generations. Yeah. Exactly. Beautiful. That's what I do as well. It's beautiful to know that. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you for your work. Oh, you're most welcome. So when a sensitive, intuitive child is shutting down or acting out, what are they reflecting back about the environment around them? This is one of the things that I deal with daily with them, is the first thing I tell them is, "It's not you that isn't right. It's the rest of the world isn't ready for you," generally."So you're very sensitive because you are special." and you're the teacher for the world, so I help them step into the fullness of who they really are to really improve their confidence and to give them the empowerment they need to be who they are without fear. Mm-hmm. And to shine that light that they're hiding, because it's sometimes it's their light that's too bright. Often they will get picked on, like I did at school, bullied. Uh, and I do say, you know, when your light is a bright one, it can attract the wrong attention as well as the right attention, so yeah. So we do a lot about that helping them understand their energetic output. Um- Yeah, that would've been such a relief to have somebody that understood that when I was younger, and I'm sure the same with you, that understood that. I got told I was too sensitive, as if there was something wrong with me. Yeah. You were always crying as a kid. You were always crying. You were a right mad arse, they'd say. Yeah. I was really sensitive. Everything hurt, didn't it? So… It did. And I, because I'm such an introvert, that if something hurt me, I'd just shut down, and then I got told I was stuck-up and arrogant because I couldn't, I couldn't relate. childhood was pretty painful, My dad was more sensitive, but my mom was pretty brutal with my emotions, and so that was a lot of the trauma that I had too. Difficult. Yeah, so energy healing still gets dismissed even by people who are open to personal growth work. Why do you think the resistance is so stubborn, and does it still bother you? I'm amazed that science is only really coming out to tell everyone that everything is energy. but it is really out there now, so everything I see, everything that, that's, exposed to me shows that everybody knows that everyone's energy. So I'll say, well, it's really obvious everything is energy. So if we don't understand how to work on an energetic level, it's similar to, a fish not knowing what water is. Yes. I think it's true. I started correlating quantum physics to healing back in the '90s. Mm-hmm. And when I would describe it to people, they'd go, "Oh yeah, that makes sense." And I hadn't come out as a healer, It's like, here I am, ta-da, 'cause I was steeped into the science world, but I began exploring it a lot. There's also the religious right that'll come and say that it's against God or against Jesus, and all of this, and it's like, but why would it be against to help children, to help people heal, to help them become happier and healthier? Doesn't make any sense. Yeah. That, that's the bit I find difficult because God, to be God-realized, is to live in love and to love everyone as the same as you're loving yourself. And when I was, uh, at church, there was so much division and separation, and I was kicked out of the church for doing Reiki and yoga. They threw me out. I was really helpful. I did lots of volunteer work. I played in the church band. I helped the kids in the Sunday school. And when they found out I did Reiki and yoga, I was banished from the church, in this day and age. what they said to me was, "You don't know who you are working for." They basically said that Reiki was the job of, work of the devil and so was yoga. And I said, "How and why?" And, and the pastor said, "Yoga means yoke, which is evil." And I said, "Yoga means union with God." Anyway, I was banished. But yeah, it, it's quite an incredible story and, and I feel quite sad for them that they believe they are working for God when the separation- Yes is not of God. I did say, "You are working for the…" 'Cause they were a doctor's surgery who ran the church as well. I did say, "I think pharmaceutical companies are a lot closer to the devil than Reiki." This is true. This is true. Because they're worshiping the wrong thing. So if there's a woman listening right now who has done the therapy, the programs, the coaching, and she's still showing up for everyone else and she's starting to wonder if she's just built to be tired, what would you most want her to hear today? Well, probably the same thing that I would love to have myself, six months off, focusing on yourself, being in the body without having to look after anyone else. We all need that. Seriously, we… Most of us need rest. The brain uses up so much energy. The, the… Everything we have to do online and the technology and just the baseline energy is being sapped, isn't it, at all times, and probably find every moment that you can to rest if… Not many of us can get six months off looking after ourselves, so I think the most important thing is to practice being in the body all day, every day, no matter what you're doing, because then we're bringing the energy back to the body. Yeah. So the, the science stuff of this, I, I love it so much. I find it so interesting. I wish I had been a scientist. I messed about at school. I had all the trauma going on, but I was top of the class in physics. I loved it. It was quite a low mark I got, but I was still top of the class. So I d- I have looked into the science a lot, and literally our thinking and stressing and worrying alone, so Eckhart Tolle says, can take up to 75% of the body's available energy that it needs to function normally. So learning not to be out of the head, learning to be in the body, to breathe and, and be present in the body no matter what we were doing. At any chance, practice that because that's where we bring our power back to ourselves, and it's not selfish. No. As a matter of fact, I just had a very interesting conversation yesterday with another healer who said that self-care is a way of, of honoring what God gave us, right? Yeah. So it's honoring, we got life, we got this body, we got this family, whatever it is that we have, and by taking care of ourselves, we're honoring it, and we're becoming more spiritual and spiritually connected the more we do self-care. Like, anything that's done, like even fixing a healthy meal is meaning that you're honoring what you've received. So I, I love that, right? Yeah, exactly. Taking self-care. We should be treating ourselves the same way we treat others, and that is one of the things that I always focus on in a session with anyone of any age, is to bring their awareness into compassion for themselves the same as they have for a puppy or a kitten or a baby or the grandma or anyone else, and most people, that's alien to them to do that. I remember the first time I did that myself. it was so strange, like hug myself and give myself the love I'd always given everyone else, and it was a big transition to learn to do that I went through a process of re-parenting myself, like imagining me as a little child and loving that little child because I have two children and now three grandchildren, and the care that I give them, I started to give myself. Brilliant. and that's really important. I love your message. Yeah. So Luminara, where can people find you and go deeper with your work? Um, I have provided some links that I hope you may be able to put in the description. Might be easier than sharing them by verbally. Okay. So yeah, got a website and obviously a Facebook page. a lot of people contact me via the the Facebook page. Okay. I will make sure- 'cause I do a lot of word, yeah, word of mouth. So I've got books I've written, um, that are mainly about developing our ability to be ourself and to step into who we really are, into our full sovereignty, without fear, because that was something I've had to, repeatedly remind myself to do, so. Yeah. there's a lot of really good exercises just for that. Like, one of them that I really loved was imagine yourself, self hiking up a mountain, and as you hike up the mountain, you leave everything behind. And when you get to the top, who are you then? Beautiful. Yeah. So one of the links I've shared with you, which I hope you'll share, is, a song. I write songs that sing about to bring about. They're basically mantras, but they are s- they are sung, so for positive energy. And one of them is simply, who am I when everything falls away? Who am I? Yes, exactly that. Exactly that. We're, we're coming together to the same point from completely different directions, and I love that. Yeah, but it's beautiful, and I'm really honored to meet you. I love scientists. So there's one little thing I would like to share before we finish, if that's okay. That would be great. and because when I meet people like you, this is why I'm meeting you. obviously I've been heaven bent on making the world a better place since I was a child, and we've been told consistently that you can't change the world, you can only change yourself. But we know that world peace through self-peace, if we change ourselves, we do change the world around us. early last year, I began something called Global Frequency Shift. Mm-hmm. And the idea was to try and get 9,000 people together at the same time. We don't have to be physically together. Well, how I was doing it was letting people know a time and a day, all round the world, the different time zones, and to, to be offline while we did it so that we all reached a same coherent state at the same time for the same length of time, and trying to get thousands to do that. Because apparently, if just 9,000 people do this, it's… We only need 1% of the population. If 9,000 people reach the same intention energetically together at the same time, it will transform the whole of the world. Isn't that fantastic? That is fantastic, and um- So I would like to stay tuned with anybody who wants to get involved, and we will find a way. It probably needs to be led online by someone who's got a good audience like yourself. But we, we, we need to keep doing these. I did them several times last year, and I'm branching out. I'm going to be doing them on stage, for large audiences. But we want to take it round the world, where all these people like you and I who are here for the right reason, for the good of all, to join together and find everybody else who wants to do it.'Cause everybody wants the same thing. They, we, we do. Everybody wants peace. Everybody wants love. Yes. That's absolutely true. And even in my most difficult relationships, I would just say, "What do they want?" They just want to be recognized, loved, and cared for. And even when they're in their most angry, I would just say, "Are you okay?" And then it stopped. Like, when my mom got really angry, I said, "Are you okay?""Oh, thanks for asking." Oh, that's lovely. Yeah, so- You're an angel. Oh, I don't think of myself that way. You really are. Thank you. Thank you so much. So thank you so much for being here and sharing your message. I'm sure that it will resonate with a lot of people. Thanks for having me. It's been lovely. You're most welcome.
